ABOUT
We teach concepts in depth to ensure students understand the topic to a high level, so that they can apply their knowledge to any question. We focus on understanding why certain steps are taken (maths) or how a concept links to the topic (science) rather than learning a method to follow.
At Hutton Tuition Centre, we use traditional teaching methods. Worksheets are utilised as a support for teaching and lesson time is focussed on making sure students understand concepts through detailed explanation and discussion.
Progress is constantly tracked through lesson work, homework and periodic timed papers. (For those taking 11+ exams, marks are ranked and students given an anonymous list so they are aware of their relative level).
We provide homework to consolidate the lesson’s learning and encourage independent study at home. We mark all homework by the next lesson, when we will revise any topics students have struggled with.
We show great patience with all of our students and always encourage them to ask if they need help. We recognise that each student learns at a different pace so groups consist of students of similar academic ability.
We offer small group (2-6 students) or 1 to 1 lessons. Students are grouped based on academic ability and goals, rather than school year. These groups are flexible; if a student improves faster than the rest of the group, they will be moved to suit their ability. Each student’s progress is discussed with parents after every lesson. We work with parents to design and implement a long term plan for students and how best to manage their workload between Hutton Tuition Centre and home.
Detailed notes are made in class to facilitate revision at home, regardless of the student’s age or the subject they are learning. GCSE and A Level students are advised to link their notes to specific sections of their exam board specification to ensure they have covered all topics they are required to know for their exams.
OUR TUTORS
Our tutors are knowledgeable and well trained, to ensure that the same high quality lessons are delivered throughout Hutton Tuition Centre. For GCSE students, work is marked to the relevant exam board mark scheme. For students working towards 11+ exams, we mark to our own criteria, based on a combination of mark schemes and advice available from grammar schools and our experience of previous students' level of success in these exams.
All of our tutors have undergone an enhanced DBS check.
